Compress PDF

Reduce the size of a PDF so it fits email, WhatsApp and online form limits. Keep the text sharp or go for the smallest file, aim for a size like 1 MB, and see how much you saved before you download.

How strong?

Choose a PDF to start.

How to use

  1. 1Choose your PDF or drag it in. If it has a password, type the password you use to open it.
  2. 2Pick “Basic” to keep the text sharp and selectable, or “Strong” for the smallest file (pages become pictures).
  3. 3Choose the picture or page quality. If a form needs the file under a size (for example 1 MB), pick that target and the tool tries lower settings until it fits.
  4. 4Press “Compress PDF”, check the new size and how much you saved, then press “Download PDF”.

FAQ

Is my PDF uploaded to your server?

No. The PDF is compressed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. It never reaches our server, so it's safe for certificates, bank statements and other private documents.

What is the difference between Basic and Strong?

Basic keeps every page as real PDF: text stays sharp, searchable and copyable. It removes hidden extra data and re-saves big photos at a lower resolution. Strong turns every page into a JPG picture, which is much smaller for scans and photo-heavy files, but the text can no longer be selected or searched, and links and form fields are lost.

How do I get my PDF under 1 MB (or 200 KB) for an online form?

Choose the size in “Target size”. The tool starts from your setting and tries lower ones until the file fits. If Basic can't reach the target, it tells you the smallest size it managed; Strong compression usually gets there.

Why didn't my PDF get smaller?

Some PDFs are already well optimised, for example text-only files made by Word or a good PDF printer. The tool never gives you a file bigger than the original: if it can't save anything, it says so and you can keep your original file.

Will the compressed PDF still have its password?

Yes. If your PDF has an open password or restrictions, the compressed copy keeps the same open password and the same restrictions. You only need to type the password you already use to open it.

Does Basic compression change my text or fonts?

No. Text, fonts, vector drawings, logos and screenshots are kept exactly. Only big photos are re-saved, and editor data (Illustrator/Photoshop editing information), page thumbnails and XMP metadata are removed. Keep the original if you still need to edit it in Illustrator.
