PDF Permissions

Choose what people can do with your PDF: print it, copy its text, edit it, comment or fill forms, locked with an owner password. The PDF still opens normally for reading.

What can people do with it?

Quick choices

Owner password

Locks these settings: you'll need it to change them later. Readers never need it to open the PDF.

Choose a PDF to start.

How to use

  1. 1Choose your PDF or drag it in. If it's already protected, enter its owner password first.
  2. 2Pick a quick choice (read only, read and print, print and fill forms) or tick exactly what's allowed: printing, copying, editing, comments, forms and page changes.
  3. 3Type an owner password twice. It keeps the settings from being changed; readers don't need it. Add an open password too if only some people should read it.
  4. 4Press “Apply permissions”, then “Download PDF”.

FAQ

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. The permissions are added inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. Your PDF and passwords never reach our server.

Who enforces the permissions?

The PDF reader does. Adobe Acrobat and Reader, Chrome, Edge, Foxit and most phone viewers respect them: they grey out Print, block copying text or refuse to edit. They're a standard rule for reader apps rather than a lock on the content, so a determined person with special software can ignore them. For real secrecy, add an open password too.

Will people need a password to read the PDF?

No, unless you tick “Also require a password to open the PDF”. Without an open password, anyone can open and read it but can only do what you allowed.

What does “Low quality only” printing mean?

The PDF can be printed, but readers that follow the rule print it at low resolution, so it's fine for reading on paper but not good enough to reproduce. “Not allowed” blocks printing completely.

What is the owner password for?

It locks your choices. Anyone who wants to change or remove the permissions, here or in Adobe Acrobat, needs it. Keep it safe: without it, you'll need your original unprotected file to make changes.

Can I change the permissions of a PDF that already has them?

Yes, if you know its owner password. The tool shows the current settings, asks for the owner password, and then lets you change them.
