Compress Video

Make a video file smaller by choosing a quality, a lower resolution or a target size in MB. It's compressed on your own device, so the video is never uploaded.

Settings

100% private: the video is processed by your own browser and never uploaded. The first time, your browser downloads the free video engine (about 9 MB, only once). Long or HD videos take a while on phones — keep this page open until it finishes.

How to use

  1. 1Choose your video, or drag it in. You'll see its size, length and resolution.
  2. 2Pick a quality (Balanced suits most videos), or switch to “By target size” and type the size you need in MB.
  3. 3Optionally lower the resolution (720p is plenty for phones and WhatsApp) and keep “Max 30 frames per second” ticked.
  4. 4Press “Compress video”. The first time, the video engine downloads once (about 9 MB).
  5. 5Watch the result, compare the before and after size, then press Download.

FAQ

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The video is processed by your own browser, on your phone or computer, with a free video engine (ffmpeg). It never reaches our server, so private and family videos stay private.

How much smaller will my video get?

Phone videos usually shrink by 50–90%. “Balanced” at 720p is a good start; “Small file” or 480p shrink it further. If the result would not be smaller than your original, the tool tells you instead of giving you a bigger file.

What does “By target size” do?

You type a size, for example 15 MB for an email attachment, and the tool picks the bitrate to land close to it, usually a little under. Very small targets for long videos look blurry, so lower the resolution as well.

Which resolution should I choose?

1080p keeps Full HD detail. 720p looks sharp on any phone and is much smaller. 480p is the smallest and is fine for messaging. The tool never makes a video larger than it already is.

Why does it take a while?

Compressing means re-encoding every frame, and your browser does it without a server. A 1-minute 1080p phone video can take a few minutes on a computer and longer on a phone. Keep the page open; the progress bar shows the time left.

Which formats does it work with?

MP4, MOV (iPhone), WEBM, MKV, 3GP, AVI and most others. The result is always an MP4 (H.264 + AAC), which plays on every phone and computer and on WhatsApp, Facebook and YouTube.
