Locations are checked against Wikipedia, Wikidata and OpenStreetMap. Large places (forests, haors, islands, long beaches) are marked at one well-known point. Roads, boats and permits change, so check the latest local news before you travel, especially for hill tracts and border areas.
How to use
- 1Pick a division, a type of place (beaches, hills, waterfalls, tea gardens, heritage and more), or both. Or search for a place, a district or a word such as “waterfall”; Bangla names work too.
- 2Tap a place in the list to fly to it on the map, or tap a dot on the map to read about it. The dot colours match the types in the filter.
- 3Press “Open in Google Maps” in a place's pop-up to get directions and see photos and reviews.
- 4Press “Near me” to sort the list by distance from where you are (your browser will ask for permission).
FAQ
Which places are on the map?
Well-known places to visit in all eight divisions of Bangladesh: sea beaches and islands, hills, waterfalls, forests and national parks, rivers, lakes and haors, tea gardens, heritage and archaeological sites, museums and religious sites. It is a starting list, not every place in the country.
How accurate are the locations?
Each place was checked against Wikipedia, Wikidata and OpenStreetMap, and places we could not confirm were left out. Large places such as the Sundarbans, haors, long beaches and national parks are marked at one well-known point, so use Google Maps for directions to the exact gate, ghat or viewpoint.
Does it work without internet?
The list, search and filters keep working once the page has loaded. The map pictures come from OpenStreetMap and need an internet connection, as do the Google Maps links.
Is “Near me” safe? Is my location saved?
Your location is only used inside your browser to sort the list by distance and show a blue dot on the map. It is not sent to our server or saved. You can say no to the permission and still use everything else.
Do I need a permit to visit some places?
Some hill-tract areas of Bandarban, Rangamati and Khagrachhari, places near the border and parts of the Sundarbans can need permission, a registered guide or a forest pass, and rules change with weather and security. Check with the local administration, tourist police or your tour operator before you go.
