FAQ
How do I convert a HEX code to CMYK?
Type the code (for example #0F5A37) into the HEX box and the CMYK box instantly shows the approximate values (C83 M0 Y39 K65). This uses a simple formula; the real color can differ a little depending on the press's paper and ink profile.
Why doesn't the color on my screen come out the same in print?
A monitor shows RGB color with light, while printing uses four inks (CMYK). Very bright blues, greens, oranges and pinks can't be made with ink, so they print a little duller. This tool warns you about such colors.
Should I send print files in RGB or CMYK?
For offset printing (cards, leaflets, calendars) CMYK mode is the safe choice. Many flex and digital printing machines accept RGB and convert it themselves, so ask the press. For Facebook or the web, always use RGB.
Which black should I use for printing?
Use plain K100 (C0 M0 Y0 K100) for small text so it stays sharp. For large black backgrounds, rich black (C60 M40 Y40 K100) gives a deeper black.
What contrast ratio makes text readable?
At least 4.5:1 for normal text (WCAG AA), and 7:1 is best (AAA). Large headings can get by with 3:1. Banners are read from a distance, so give them even more contrast.
